SENSORY BOOK

Dream Touch is an inclusive tactile book designed to foster sensory exploration and imaginative storytelling for children aged 5–7, particularly those who are blind or have low vision. By prioritising touch over sight, the book encourages learning through haptic interaction, curiosity, and creative problem-solving.

Each page presents a distinct scene conveyed through tactile elements—such as textured materials, movable components, and sliding tracks, inviting children to engage with the narrative through their sense of touch. The circular design of these tactile features ensures consistent interpretation regardless of orientation, supporting independent exploration.

To accommodate the book’s three-dimensional pages and enhance flexibility, the book employs a dual jute-thread binding instead of traditional methods. This approach allows pages to be rearranged, enabling personalised storytelling experiences.

The narrative unfolds through simple, engaging dialogues, featuring abstract characters and scenarios that stimulate imagination. While primarily tailored for children with visual impairments, Dream Touch offers a multisensory experience that benefits all young readers, promoting inclusive learning and shared discovery.

Page 1: ‘Our dreams are a magical place, in our dreams the sky could be a swirling galaxy of colours and the floor could be a relaxing mix of smooth marbles and pebbles stretch as far as we can touch.’
Page 2: ‘Only the cutest animals with the softest fur live in our dreams, go on pat him, he’s friendly!’
Page 3: ‘Hop on, let’s see where this takes us!’
Page 4: ‘Where are we? What is this, gooey? Slimy? It is unlike anything I’ve ever felt!’
Page 5: ‘We accidentally fell onto a spider web, woah its bouncy, like a trampoline!’
Page 6: ‘Aww… our dream is ending, the doors have appeared. It is time to say goodbye and leave our dreamworld!’
